LECTURE 'Yemen: The Silent Theatre of Russia's Middle East Resurgence' 16/12/2019 - 18:00
Russia’s resurgence as a great power in the Middle East and the Gulf region, in particular, has received widespread attention in recent months. In spite of this scrutiny, Russia’s diplomatic involvement and geopolitical interests in Yemen have been largely overlooked. The lecture draws attention to this under-explored, but increasingly important dimension of Russian foreign policy, by outlining the history of Russia-Yemen relations since unification in 1990 and exploring Moscow’s position towards the current conflict.

World Monuments Fund and our local partners GOAM have been working in Ta'iz, Yemen, since December 2018, with funding from the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund. Taiz is a battleground in the civil war that has consumed Yemen since early 2015, causing terrible human suffering and loss of life.
